BAT Internet Based Training Program (ITP) |
 |
Description
Innovative new
Computer Based / Web Based / Internet Training Program to assist BAT
Instructors in meeting the Department of Transportation’s training
requirements for Breath Alcohol Technicians.
The Internet Training Program (ITP) is offered on-line and provides Units
I-VII of the required training in a DOT Model Course equivalent
format. This interactive training program allows the student to
study the DOT rules and regulations at their own pace and is
designed to replace in-class training requirements of DOT’s Model
Course. Unit VIII, EBT Proficiency, must still be accomplished in a
classroom setting where a qualified Instructor is monitoring the
students in real time using their EBT device. The ITP delivers
consistent and accurate information about the DOT rules in a style
that engages the trainee. Audio and visual explanations and
repetition of the key points help students learn the material; pass
the Unit quizzes and the overall mastery test.
The "study at your own pace" feature of the program offers flexibility
for the trainer and the trainee. It reduces the preparation time and
class time required by both parties, as well as providing a resource
to allow the trainee to find answers to questions in the future. In
addition, it provides the trainer with a foolproof method of
verifying that the student has actually spent the required amount of
time studying the rules & regulations. Initial BAT training requires
6 ½ hours of study on the rules & regs and refresher BAT training
requires 3 hours.
The ITP meets the requirements of the rules and regulations portion of
DOT’s qualification training program for BATs (for complete BAT
training, in-person EBT proficiency training is necessary to comply
with DOT training requirements).
